To Everything a Season (Song of Blessing book 1) by Lauraine Snelling
Rating: five stars
I really enjoyed this book! I have never read anything else by this author and she has already written other books for this setting. So that’s the first thing that’s great about it, a reader does not have to have read any other books first before this one. I was able to catch on to all the character names and families just fine.
This book had a super cute plot and a very realistic storyline. I liked Miriam and Trygve, the doctors, Manny, and little Inga the best. There are multiple side plots, as I call them, in this book. Little stories about what’s going on for other people and it made me feel like I lived in Blessing too. The writing in this book was gorgeous and descriptive, I could picture all the scenes. The characters developed in the story and the reader gets to see multiple views, not just one character’s ideas and life throughout the book. I chose this book based on the nurse and hospital part of the plot; I was not disappointed.
One thing to note about this book is that it is the first book in a series. (Song of Blessing) So there is a major cliffhanger and do not be alarmed like I was about not meeting the supposed main characters until halfway through the book. I was reading and reading, waiting to learn more about Trygve and to even meet Miriam, but I was satisfied when I did. I’m also now dying to read the next book!
Overall, it was a really good book! I loved how Manny was introduced and accepted into Blessing and so many scenes with Trygve and Miriam were cute. The only complaints I could possibly even have would just be that I wish the reader would have gotten to learn more about Trygve’s character. There was a lot about his work and his general life with his family, but not so much about his opinions and thoughts. He was still a great character though and I’d suggest this book to anyone who is interested in good historical fiction or interested in reading books about small towns.
I was given a free copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for a free and honest review.
