Give-Away & Sewing Stuff

So as I told you all a while ago, I won the Boyer Family Singers’ give-away! The patterns arrived last Thursday, but it always takes me a bit to post things. 😉 I was so excited for them to get here and they finally came!! Although actually it wasn’t a long wait, I just might have been a little impatient. So anyway, I took some pictures for you. Even though I haven’t made any of them yet, I’m looking forward to sewing some of them!

It came!!

There’s something so exciting about getting a package in the mail addressed to you.

Even though I haven’t made any of these yet, I have been sewing! I usually remake things, like turning a wrap skirt into a shirt. (I actually need to post about that still. I’ll post about that another time.) But the other day I realized that I have fabric! Which is actually sometimes easier to sew with then already made things! So I looked through my fabric drawer.

I didn’t even go through the whole drawer! I found something I could use a few pieces under the top one. So I pulled it out and planned out how I was going to make what I wanted. The way I sew is just: I think of what I want to make or wear and then find something to make it out of. And then I make it and add details or whatever after.

So after I figured out how I was going to try making this shirt, I cut it out on my floor. Now to explain, I have my sewing machine in my room. There isn’t really any room in my room for me to keep a table for this kind of stuff. (Trust me, I tried.) So when ever I have to do a cutting project, I do it on my hardwood floor! I’ve found that it works perfectly because of two reasons! One: as long as I’ve remembered to move my rug out of the way, I don’t ever cut anything I’m not supposed to. Two: because I’ve found that the grooves in my floor work perfectly as the grooves on the counters at fabric stores! The ones they use to cut a straight line through the fabrics you’re buying.

the lines don't look that straight in this picture, but they are.

{Notice my little pile of sewing books? 😀 }

So I’m still working on this shirt, but when I finish it I’ll post pictures of it. Also (sometime) I’ll post the pictures of the other shirt I made!

It's actually really fun to cut things out when you don't have to worry about straight lines. (I guess though, if you always use a pattern, you wouldn't have to worry anyway!) :)

That’s all for now; I’m off to clean my room and sew some more. (My room doesn’t look as clean as it does in the pictures.) I’m really relaxed now after surviving a french test! (First day back from break; we had a test. I did just fine though!)

    It’s going to be a long shirt. It’s actually navy blue, but it’s hard to tell in the pictures. I’ll post more when I finish it!

    You keep asking me that, but I haven’t figured it out yet. I think I can add something to the side of my blog that lets you search that though. I’ll look into it for you.
